Tour Series - Woking
On Tuesday 2 June 2009, Woking will play host to
a dramatic, high profile, one-day cycling event
laid on by the organisers of the Tour of
Britain, with support from Woking Borough
Council and Surrey County Council.
Woking
is one of ten English towns and cities that has
been selected to stage an event as part of the
Tour Series, offering local people a unique
opportunity to enjoy top level cycling on their
doorstep.
From 11am onwards, phased road closures will be
put in place to give cyclists the chance to be
the kings of the road. During the afternoon,
there will be a number of amateur races
involving local schools, disabled cyclists and
businesses.
The excitement will then build towards the main
Tour Series road race when 10 squads of five top
riders each will battle it out on a 1.5km
circuit around the town. This is a fantastic
opportunity to see some of Britain's top
cyclists whiz around the town at break-neck
speed in the hope of wearing the much-coveted
leading team's jerseys whilst enjoying their
victory on the Woking podium.
The Tour Series Woking promises to be one of the
biggest sporting events to take place in the
area during 2009 and the action will be captured
on film by major television broadcaster, ITV4.
CornerHouse will be fielding a team from the
Next Steps group as well as encouraging other
groups and individuals to take part – contact
