CornerHouse expands into Runnymede
CornerHouse have established an office base
at Runnymede Association of Voluntary
Services, and will begin by expanding their
Next Steps Depression Support Service into
Runnymede. This service will include
organising two depression self-help groups
and a Walking for Health Scheme, as well as
providing information and initial one-to-one
support to people in Runnymede affected by
depression. Further information can be found
on the service website at
www.nextsteps.me.uk or by calling 01932
568091.
CornerHouse first opened in Woking in 2003
and is currently used by over 230 per week.
It provides a broad menu of services, groups
and information to a very wide spectrum of
people affected by emotional and mental
health issues locally, which in effect can
be considered to be all local residents. As
carers, partners, friends, colleagues and
neighbours everyone is affected in some way.
A recent Review of Adult Mental Health Day
Services in West Surrey by Surrey County
Council identified the CornerHouse model as
a cost-effective and efficient way in which
to provide future day services to Runnymede,
an area identified in the same report as
lacking the level of provision seen in other
Boroughs.
CornerHouse will also be helping to start,
develop and support social drop-ins and
further groups in Runnymede to cover issues
such as depression, anxiety, eating
disorders and carers support. If you are
interested in helping to start up a new
group or have a view on what you feel might
be needed in the area then please call
CornerHouse Director Paul Field on 01483
757461.
